How to Start a Best Wellness or Health Blog: Step by Step Guide 

Hi everyone its Vicki and welcome to my blog. Today I am going to teach you how you can start a wellness blog and I will also give you a list of blog that you can follow. While I love sharing tips on healthy eating and healthy living for entrepreneurs, I’ve noticed that some of the most common questions I get asked are “how did I start my business”. This is the number one question I get. Also, how do I start a blog if you are a budding wellness entrepreneur?  You will know how important it is to have your own space in the busy old world wide web in order to convey your message. But it can seem really daunting. So in this guide, I’m going to talk you through the process of how I set up my blog, what tools are used and how I very simply mark it each of my blog posts. Also, I will give you some example health blog you can follow how they made their website.

Here’s what I’m going to cover about what you’re going to write about us page, host your blog, how to create a brand, how to design your website, how to plan your content and how to create a simple marketing plan. Decide what you’re gonna blog about, what are you passionate about, what do your audience most want to hear from you, what do people most often ask you for advice on, what are you offering them. You will hear a lot of people talking about finding a niche. It is really important to be clear about what the message is that you’re sending in the online world. People have really short attention spans. If they can’t work out what you’re all about within a few seconds; they won’t be hanging around your blog for long. However, I would say don’t get lost in this process. It is so easy to get caught at this stage thinking you don’t have anything to offer and you don’t have anything to write about.

You might even be thinking you can’t possibly start a blog until your niche crystal-clear that simply isn’t true. Just remember you won’t be the first your idea will inevitably be similar or pretty much the same as something else already out there. But what will be unique is you and your perspective. If you’re really struggling and can’t pin down your niche just start something. Starting your blog is better than not starting at all and guess what won’t be perfect straight away. Blogs can and will evolve that’s okay my blog started when I was exploring a yeast-free diet and writing more about anti-candida. Now here I am sharing how to grow a wellness business. Things have all just be open to it. Use the worksheet you can download below to work out your niche and identify your audience.

Next up choose a platform you may well have already started researching this. But the biggest players out there for bloggers are Squarespace the hosts and WordPress. There are also loads of others on the market. I’d recommend giving yourself a limited amount of time to go and do a bit of research each platform has its own strengths and its own weaknesses. Some of the hosts will also offer you a free trial. So if you’re tempted by one of them give a free trial. Go and see how it feels for you. Again don’t get stuck at this stage. Think about what’s most important for you in terms of the platform and perhaps look at some other bloggers and get in touch with them to find out what platforms they use. For example, you can see these websites. They are the best wellness blog: Mercola natural health, Cure Lab or Harvard health blog. If you really like their layout; once you’ve chosen your platform it’s time to create a brand in the resources.

Below I’ve given you an example of my branding board. Branding board is a space where you can create the identity of your blog visually through colours, through fonts and through images. It’s also great on your branding board to be able to put down some words around. What your audience won’t feel and think when they’re visiting your blog in terms of your visuals of the link. Below – a tool that I use to find a colour palette for my brand. I’d recommend you find two colours that really complement one another that you can use throughout your blog and marketing materials. I’d also recommend you find two fonts that work really well together. Again that you can use the cross your blog and all know your marketing materials.

There are loads of websites out there recommending great font pairings. I’ve linked below to one that I use to find my fonts for this website. For Squarespace users, your brown board is all about getting a consistent look and feel across every platform that your users are going to find you on. You want your users to be able to identify all of your material wherever they find you on the Internet. Part of creating your branding board could be to create a logo. This is totally optional though and it should not hold you back from launching your website. There are loads of free logo templates you can find on canva.com.  I’ve linked below in the resources I’d recommend you give yourself a finite amount of time to have a look through and find an adapt and a logo that works for you.  Again a logo and all those other exciting things like getting business cars with your logos on can really come later.

What you need to start on is focusing on the content and adding value to your audience first rather than spending too much time on the aesthetics. Next up a time to design your website on most of the platforms there’ll be a whole host of templates that you can start from. I’m not going to tell you exactly how to design your website that’s going to be completely unique to you. But what I would recommend is that you include the following pages and about you page which tells your audience who you are and what they’re going to find on your blog and a space for your blog post. I’d recommend once you have a few blog posts that you find a way to categorize these or break them up.

Definitely include your social media links from your blog. You want me your users to be able to find you on Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest and wherever else you can be found on the internet. Your blog should definitely include a mailing list and sign up. You might be thinking just like I was was the point of a mailing list sign up when no one’s even visiting my blog yet. But I’m telling you now it’s essential even if you’re not gonna start sending newsletters straight away. It’s really important to have space where people can sign up to hear more from you that data is yours they’re handing it over to you. Because they want to hear more from you as and when you’re ready to give them something you’ll have that data ready to go and a contact me page.

It’s really important for your audience to be able to reach you but also potential brand collaborations and other guest writers that might want to appear on your blog. One thing I have a lot of people ask me is what about photography? We all know visuals are so important for a blog but what happens if you’re not great with the camera. The best tool I would recommend is a website called Unsplash.  They have beautiful images all free that you can download and use across your blog long term. I would really recommend getting to grips with the camera and finding your own visual style. But again don’t let that hold you back from starting your blog use some free images from Unsplash to get you started and gradually start to replace those with your own images as you feel more confident. Next up let’s look at content and designing a content schedule how often are you going to post your content. The key here is consistency what will consistent be for you maybe it’s going to be once a week, once a month, once every six months. Audiences like consistency and Google also loves the fresh content being pushed to your blog.

Think about what’s realistic and stone overburden yourself at the beginning with a schedule that you just can’t keep up with. What type of content are you going to be writing one of my favourite tools for coming up with ideas for blog posts is a post by Jen Carrington called seven types of content to help share your message. The best blog posts are often ones that come from the heart or even from conversations. You’ve been having with friends or trends that you’re seeing at the moment in the health and wellness scene. If you’re passionate about it your readers will be too and always remember what value is there adding to that reader and how much should you write. Most recommendations are for blog posts around 500 words long. Personally I write a lot longer than that’s just my style. Don’t let anyone else dictate to you how long your blog posts should be though.

Do what feels right for you and finally create a simple marketing strategy for each of your blog post. Here’s what I do first up I create two Pinterest pins and pin those across my Pinterest account linking back to my blog post. Make sure you watch my video on how to use Pinterest to grow your blog traffic for more honest I share each blog post at least five times on Twitter. I would highly recommend you use a scheduling tool for Twitter if you want to get started with a free one buffer is a brilliant place to start from the buffer. You can schedule up to 10 tweets that will go out automatically on predefined days. Remember tweets only lasts about 20 minutes in the Twittersphere. So don’t feel afraid to share the same blog over and over on Twitter. That’s the only way it’s gonna get seen share your blog post on Facebook. Now ideally you’d have a Facebook page which is linked to your blog but don’t worry if. That comes a bit later. I know I took a little while to build up the courage to put my blog on Facebook. Because that’s where all my friends and family were hanging out and could read it.

However, you might be surprised once you get it up there. How supportive everyone is there’s more on that topic in my mindset video and basically that’s it those three tools Pinterest, Twitter and Facebook are the main ones that I actively use to promote my blog posts. It’s important to remember that Instagram is notoriously bad for getting click through to your blog unless you have over 10,000 followers and that swipe up facility. Don’t worry too much about trying to drive traffic to your blog from your Instagram account. People on Instagram like to stay on Instagram and that’s where Instagram. SEO is another buzzword you might have heard about search engine optimization.  It’s really important in getting your blog read long term for a successful blog. You’ll need to understand how to move up for Google search pages to get more click through to your website. But if you are only just getting started don’t worry about SEO. Getting started putting anything out in the world is the most important thing right now way more important than becoming an expert on SEO and keywords.

I would say come back to this and things like Google Analytics in a couple of months time once you’ve got a successful blog running with loads of lovely people. Let’s recap identify what you’re gonna write about, find your niche and if you can’t pin it down yet just get started somewhere. The niche will come and it’s going to evolve. Anyway, choose platform research the main contenders. I reckon the big ones a Squarespace and WordPress. I’d say pick two colours and two fonts that you’re going to work with. Design your website, plan your content out and create a simple marketing plan to push each of your blog posts.
